Hand hoist
A manual hoist (of any type) is a device for lifting a load using a chain and supplemented by a built-in mechanism that reduces the force required for operation (muscular effort of the user or pull of an electric motor). The presence of this mechanism is one of the main differences between the hoist and the winch: if in the winches the force (with rare exceptions) is transmitted to the drum directly, then in the hoists - through a kind of "reducer". The second difference is the use of chains (the winches are equipped with cables or belts). To further increase efficiency, a movable unit is often supplied in the design or delivery of the hoist, but this point is just not necessary.
